How fees work on Tron
- Tron charges for two resources instead of gas: bandwidth (bytes of the transaction) and energy (computation in smart-contract calls).
- Every account gets a free daily bandwidth quota; a plain TRX transfer is ~268 bytes, so it is free unless you send many transfers per day.
- Contract calls such as a TRC-20 USDT transfer burn energy (≈ 65,000 units). Cost in TRX = energy × energy price ÷ 1,000,000 sun.
- Freezing (staking) TRX grants energy or bandwidth instead of burning TRX, which is how high-volume senders avoid fees.
- Recipients that have never held USDT cost extra energy on the first transfer because a new storage slot is created.
